Oversized T-Shirt Size Guide for India

Most apparel returns start the same way: the parcel arrives, the tee goes on, and it is either a tent or a slightly baggy regular t-shirt. Sizing is the biggest reason streetwear gets sent back, and it is also the easiest problem to fix — because the answer is already hanging in your cupboard. The method below works for any brand.

Oversized is not “one size up”

A regular t-shirt is drafted to sit close to the body: the shoulder seam lands on the point of your shoulder, the sleeve hangs straight down. Size it up and everything grows together — neck opening, shoulders, length — so it looks borrowed rather than intentional.

An oversized tee is drafted differently from the start. The body is cut wide relative to its length, the armhole sits well below the natural shoulder, and the sleeve is short and wide so it stands away from the arm. The proportion is the design. That is why a well-fitting oversized M often looks sharper than an oversized XL, and why sizing up “to be safe” produces the shapeless result people are trying to avoid. The question is never “what size am I?” It is “what measurements do I want this garment to have?”

Measure a t-shirt you already own

Body measurements matter less here than people expect, because an oversized garment deliberately does not follow your body. Garment measurements are what you compare. Find the tee you own that fits closest to how you want the next one to fit, and measure it flat.

  • Lay it on a hard surface. A table or the floor, not a bed — a mattress lets the fabric sink and you will read too wide.
  • Smooth it out. Front up, side seams straight, no rippling, and do not pull it taut.
  • Chest width. Measure straight across from one side seam to the other, about 2.5 cm below the armhole. This is a flat half-measurement, not the loop around your body — do not double it.
  • Body length. From the high point of the shoulder seam at the neck, straight down to the hem, tape vertical.
  • Write both numbers down. That is your reference for every online order from now on.
Measurement How to take it What it decides
Chest width Flat across, 2.5 cm below the armhole, seam to seam How roomy it feels — the most important number
Body length Shoulder seam high point, straight down to hem Whether it sits at the hip or below it
Shoulder width Seam to seam across the upper back Where the sleeve seam lands on your arm

Expect a tolerance of roughly 1–2 cm on cut-and-sew garments. Two shirts of the same size can differ slightly. That is normal manufacturing, not a defect.

What a drop shoulder changes

On a drop-shoulder cut the armhole seam sits several centimetres down your upper arm, not at the shoulder point. So shoulder width stops being a fitting measurement — it tells you where the seam lands, not whether the shirt fits. Chest width does more work, because the sleeve hangs from lower down. And length matters more than usual: a wide body on a short length reads boxy, the same width with more length reads long and relaxed.

Comparing your numbers to a chart

Find the size whose chest width is closest to what you want. If you liked your reference tee, match it. If that reference is regular-fit and you now want oversized, add roughly 5–8 cm of chest width, or 10 cm and up for dramatically loose. Then check the length.

Every Toxikiing product page publishes flat measurements per size, so you can check before ordering. Most designs run S to XL; seven of the thirty-one products run M to XL only, and the sizes available are listed on the product itself — worth checking on a specific anime or hero graphic or a minimal essentials piece.

Why the same “L” differs between brands

No standard defines what “L” means in a t-shirt. Letters are internal shorthand for a set of pattern measurements, and every brand drafts its own. A label selling fitted basics and one selling boxy streetwear both print “L” and mean genuinely different garments.

Fabric adds a second layer: a heavier, denser knit holds its shape and hangs away from the body, while a lighter one drapes and clings. Toxikiing tees are 240 GSM French Terry cotton in a true oversized drop-shoulder cut; the hoodies are 300 GSM brushed fleece. So: ignore the letter, read the chart. A brand publishing flat measurements is giving you what you need. One printing only S/M/L/XL is asking you to guess.

Choosing between two sizes

  • Go up for the exaggerated silhouette, if you layer over hoodies or full sleeves, or if you want the hem lower on the hip.
  • Go down if you are shorter than about 5’7″, if you dislike sleeves reaching the elbow, or if you tuck the front hem — extra length makes tucking bulky.
  • Compare the length gap, not only the chest gap. If two sizes differ by 2 cm in width but 3 cm in length, length decides.
  • Think about the print. Artwork scales with the panel it sits on, so a size up puts a large centre-chest graphic lower and wider on your torso.

Still torn? Send your favourite tee’s measurements via the contact page or WhatsApp on +91 81697 72250 and ask which size is closest. Other common questions are answered in the FAQ.

If it arrives and the fit is wrong

Do not wash it and do not remove the tags — a washed garment cannot be exchanged by any brand. Lay it flat, measure it the way you measured your reference, and compare it to the published chart. Either the garment matches the chart and the size choice was wrong, or it does not match, and then it is the brand’s problem to fix.

Toxikiing offers a 7-day size exchange on stock designs. Pieces printed from a design you upload through custom printing are made to order and not covered — which is why measuring first matters most there. Terms sit on the refund policy page, timelines on the shipping policy page.

Toxikiing designs are original in-house fan art inspired by characters from Mobile Legends and anime. They are not official or licensed merchandise and are not endorsed by any game studio or publisher.

Frequently asked questions

Should I order one size up for an oversized t-shirt?

Usually not. Oversized tees are already drafted wider and boxier, so sizing up on top of that often looks shapeless rather than intentional. Measure a tee you own flat across the chest and pick the size whose published chest width matches the roominess you want.

How do I measure chest width on a t-shirt?

Lay the shirt flat on a hard surface, side seams straight and fabric relaxed. Measure straight across from one side seam to the other, about 2.5 cm below the armhole. It is a flat half-measurement, not the loop around your body, so do not double it.

Why does size L fit differently at every brand?

There is no common standard behind size letters. Each brand drafts patterns to its own intended fit, so one label’s L and another’s can be several centimetres apart in chest and length. Compare published flat measurements rather than the letter.

What sizes does Toxikiing stock?

Most products come in S, M, L and XL. Seven of the thirty-one products in the catalogue are M, L and XL only. The sizes available and the flat measurements for each are listed on every individual product page.

Can I exchange a custom printed t-shirt if the size is wrong?

No. The 7-day size exchange applies to stock designs only. Custom pieces are printed to order from your own file and cannot be resold, so they are not covered. Measure carefully before ordering, or ask first if you are unsure.
