About this piece
A cassette deck caught mid-explosion — chassis panels drifting apart, screws suspended in the air around them, and a red tape ribbon spilling out through the whole thing in a long loose curl. SONIC RELIC sits above it in torn coral lettering that looks stencilled and then ripped.
It is the loudest piece in this drop and the most detailed. The joke underneath it is gentle: the object being dissected with this much reverence is a machine almost nobody under twenty has ever operated.
The design
The composition is an exploded technical diagram pretending to be a poster. Every component of the deck — capstan, pinch roller, head assembly, the plastic window over the reels — is drawn separately and floated into position, with faint construction lines and a grid behind it holding the arrangement together like a blueprint.
The tape ribbon is what turns a diagram into a graphic. It sweeps down through the centre in a single unbroken curve, the one organic line in a composition made entirely of hard edges, and it carries the only saturated colour on the shirt.
That ribbon is also the hardest thing here to print. A long continuous curve shows every inconsistency along its length — thicken it anywhere and the eye reads a kink — and it crosses over the deck’s linework repeatedly, so at each crossing the red has to sit cleanly on top of the ivory rather than blending with it. High-density printing keeps those crossings sharp instead of muddy.

Fit and sizing
This artwork runs tall down the chest, so length matters more here than on a compact graphic — order your usual size and the composition lands where it was drawn to. The pattern is already oversized, so sizing up mostly adds body length and pushes the lower half of the deck toward your waist. Flat measurements describe the garment, not you: chest 42 inches at S, 44 at M, 46 at L, 48 at XL, with lengths of 27.5, 28.5, 29.5 and 30.5 from the high shoulder point, half an inch of tolerance either way. How the print ages, and how to slow it down
The red ribbon is the part that will show neglect first — warm colours sit at the top of the fade order, and this one is a single continuous shape, so any dulling reads across the whole curve at once rather than in patches. Cold water, turned inside out, no bleach and no fabric softener, line dry in shade. Keep it out of the tumble dryer entirely: heat plus tumbling ages a print far faster than wearing it does. What is the design actually showing?

Is anything printed on the back?
No. Front print only, plain back. The front composition is dense enough that a second graphic would be competing with it, and a clean back keeps the tee wearable under an open jacket.
Will all that fine detail survive washing?
The component linework is the reason this is printed at high density — thin lines are the first thing cheap printing loses, thickening until separate parts merge into one grey shape. Cold wash, inside out, no dryer, and the detail stays separated.
Is the red going to fade?
Only if it meets heat. Warm tones lose saturation before anything else, but that comes from hot water and tumble drying rather than from wearing it. Line dry in shade and the ribbon holds its colour.
Does a large print make the tee hot to wear?
This one stays comfortable because it is linework and open space rather than a solid block of ink. Most of the chest panel is still bare cotton and still breathes — solid-fill prints are what trap heat.
